Joseph Noah Chiasson entered into eternal peace on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at the age of 86. He is preceded in death by his parents, Noah and Azilda Chiasson; and son Joseph “Joey” Noah Chiasson, Jr. He is survived by the love of his life and wife of sixty-six years, Patricia Hinkle Chiasson, and their sons: Steven (Paula), Darrell (Celeste), and Aaron. Joe’s legacy will continue through his eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Joseph was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. In his youth, he enjoyed fishing, crawfishing, and turtle hunting. Upon graduation from Destrehan High School, he married his high school sweetheart, Pat. He served in the United States Naval Reserve VS-821 for 8 years. He also worked as a dragline operator with his father in law, a job he remembered fondly. Joe continued his career working at Avondale shipyard for a brief period of time. He retired from the United States Department of Agriculture - FGIS as a Grain Inspector. Joe had a great memory and enjoyed sharing stories of the past in great detail complete with dates.
Joe enjoyed being with his friends, several that he met Cajun dancing. They played cards and shared many laughs, however, did not exchange money. He left that for playing the “The Birds” slot machine on the Gulf Coast. His hobbies included beekeeping, gardening, and cultivating bromeliads. He was a member of the River Ridge Bromeliad Society. He and Pat enjoyed traveling to other countries such as Costa Rica, Belize, Guatemala, and El Salvador to find unique bromeliads.
Joe was a pillar of strength and love in his family, known for his kindness, unwavering support, and unpredictable sense of humor. He touched the lives of many with his warm smile and compassionate heart. His love and integrity will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Joe was a member of the East St. Charles Jaycees, and a lifelong member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 13396 River Road, Destrehan, beginning at 11 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. with interment to follow.
