Kathryn Murray Hymel, age 80, of Destrehan, LA, passed away on Wednesday, August 12, at the home of her youngest daughter and son-in-law, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 16, 1945, in New Orleans, to Paul Murray Sr. and Lizzie Donaldson.
She had a meaningful career as a teacher, coordinator, and director of religious education for over 30 years at St. Charles Borromeo, St. Rita, St. Catherine of Sienna, and St. Clement of Rome. She was well known for her Jeopardy-like knowledge and her love of many genres of music.
She is survived by her children, Kristine Henriques (Sean), Denise Brewer (Gerry), Stephanie Ledet (Clay Sr.), Sean Hymel (Kristi Matherne), Samantha Guillory (Greg), and Courtney Babin (Brett); her grandchildren, Michael Jr. (Brenda), Seth (Kelsey), Clay Jr. (Emily), Bobbie (Joel), Dillon (Courtney), Kassidy, Madison (Garrett), Bailey, Nathan (Kaira), Ellie, Riley, and Emily; her great-grandchildren, Sairye, Mavryk, Raife, Jase, and Ava; her brother, Paul Murray Jr.; and her beloved pug, Meaux.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her spouse, Glynn Hymel; her two brothers, Jerry and Roger; and her beloved twin, Kathleen.
The family would like to express sincere gratitude to Hospice Specialists of Louisiana, especially her nurses, Alisha and Regina; her aide, Rose; and nurse practitioners Alison Thornhill and Jessica Bordelon. The family especially thanks Madison Canterbury for her love and care over the last few months.
A funeral service and Mass will be held on Friday, August 21, at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Destrehan. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:30, with Mass to follow.
