I’m so sorry for you loss. I use to cut Rookie’s hair for years. I own the Barber Shop at Ochsner Hospital on Jefferson Hwy. He told me so many stories of his hunting and fishing at his camp. When he tripped over someone one night and broke his arm and still went hunting in the morning. What a good man. He would bring us bags and bags of Grapefruits every season. His dear Wife would send us her famous Pickled Crab Fingers. Delicious. I have missed Rookie the last few years . I will keep him and his wife in my prayers. God Bless his Family.

My deepest condolences and prayers for all of Mr. Rookie’s family and friends. He was a true gent and the nicest person you could meet. Great times at the duck club. Last visited a few years ago when I came to town and stopped by his house, we had a nice visit. I remember his son Tommy at the club. Full of life like his Dad and his brother Mr. Waterboy. All wonderful people. May you enjoy your reunion in Heaven. Rest In Peace Mr. Rookie.

I spent years as a kid trying to figure out the magic trick at the camp where Mr. Rookie would throw the cards against the wall and make only the Ace of Spades stick. I also believed dinosaurs existed at St. Rose Hunting and Fishing Camp because Mr. Rookie told me they did.

My sincere condolences to all of the Champagne family! Rookie was a wonderful person who surrounded his family and friends with his love. His light will continue to shine brightly for all of us. He and Elma were godparents to both of our children, and they were wonderful role models to them. They filled our hearts with so much joy through many, many years. Rest in peace, Rookie, and may you share eternity with your beautiful wife.

Rookie was the first friend I made when I moved to Louisiana in the summer of 1967. He and Elma were god parents to both of Liz and I's children. He was also best man at our wedding. He was one of a kind and will be missed by many. The last time I saw him he was hoping to make 90. He just came up a month short. Goodbye my friend.
