Louis "Cowboy" Antoine Cortez

Louis “Cowboy” Antoine Cortez, 79, native and resident of Edgard was called home on August 26, 2025. He was the beloved husband of Catherine Webre Cortez for 59 years and the father of Nancy Zeringue (Marten), Elizabeth DuBose (Daniel), Spencer Cortez (Rory), and Stephen Cortez (Brandi).

He was the son of the late Marclien and Florence Dempster Cortez and survived by his siblings, Louisiana Scioneaux and Louis Paul Cortez.

He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Melba, Leslie, Evan, Alexis, Marten II, Taylor, Cody, Krista, Emily, Angellica, William, Cara, and Avery and 16 great grandchildren.

He was an employee of St. John the Baptist Parish utilities fore 31 years. Once he retired in 2003, he could not stop talking about “his” water plant and how much he missed it. Even saying sometimes, he wished he had never retired. He once said, “you have to develop a passion for your work”.

His hobbies, besides the water plant, were hunting, fishing, and playing video poker machines as often as he could. He also loved spending time with family, as well as having a good story and a good laugh. He will be greatly missed.

Services will be Saturday, August 30, 2025, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 2349 LA-18, Edgard. Visitation will begin at 8:30AM, Rosary beginning at 9AM. Mass will be at 10AM with interment in the church cemetery.
