

He was born October 21,1951 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Lester "Chick" and Margaret "Pigeon" Darragh Kaplan. He found his soul mate and partner for life at the age of 25, when he married Cassandra (Cassie) Johnson of Luling, Louisiana. They would have been married 50 years on January 2, 2026.
He is survived by his wife: Cassie, his son: Joshua Michael Kaplan (Suzanne) of Raceland, Louisiana, his daughters; Heather Kaplan Head (Marvin) of Luling, Louisiana, and Bailee Khristopher Kaplan (Amy) of Raceland, Louisiana and three grandchildren, Landen Micheal Head, Taylor Marie Kaplan, and Kinsley Elizabeth Head, all of whom brought great joy to his life. He is also survived by his sister; Sandra Dunsee Warren of Uneedus, Louisiana and his brother; Gary Bennett Kaplan of Luling, Louisiana. along with a host of nieces, nephews.
Michael graduated from East Jefferson High school in Metairie, Louisiana in 1970, where he excelled in basketball which landed him a full paid scholarship to play at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana. After leaving Nicholls State, he started his career at Monsanto Chemical Plant where he retired after 25 years as a senior technician. He thrived on making friendships, telling jokes, cooking and always looked for a good time. He enjoyed all sports, especially umpiring for the Louisiana Babe Ruth Softball Association for many of years. In his later years, he devoted his time to Eucharistic Adoration, his Rosary, daily prayers and the men's church group (VeriDei).

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 234 Angus Drive, Luling, LA on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until Mass time at 11:00. Burial will immediately be following the Mass at St. Charles Cemetery on Paul Mallard Rd. in Luling, La.
