Michael Matthew Mire, 61, resident of Destrehan, passed away on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at his home. He was the son of the late Herman and Rosalie Hebert Mire, and brother of the late Jo Ellen Mire. Mike is survived by his wife of 36 years Peggy Frechou Mire and daughters Kristen Schiro (Ryan) and Katie Mire (Zachary). He was the proud Pawpaw of William Everett Schiro. Nephew of Margaret Reid (Talmage), Harry Hebert (Sylvia), Harold Mire, Gerald Mire (Sybil), and Lorraine Mire Macloud.
Mike was raised in Norco and was a lifelong resident of St. Charles Parish. He graduated from
Delgado Community College and St. Charles Borromeo High School. He started his career as a machinist at the Shell Norco Manufacturing Complex. One of his many career achievements included developing a software system currently used for maintenance scheduling known as the MireTool. Mike retired from Shell in 2015 as a Maintenance Planning Supervisor after 38 years of service. Mike was an active parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. He volunteered his time with the Labor of Love ministry, assisting as a coach for St. Charles Parish Parks & Recreation, and as an instructor for CCD.
Mike enjoyed riding motorcycles and took up woodworking in his spare time. He was always willing to spend time helping loved ones repair their cars and homes. Most of all, Mike enjoyed spending time with his wife, daughters, grandson and the family dogs. Mike and Peggy had plans to visit all 50 states within the United States. They celebrated his 60th birthday last year on a cruise to Alaska, which was his 49th state.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 13396 River Road, Destrehan, LA on Saturday, November 3, 2018 beginning at 9:30 am.
