

Roland Anthony Becnel Jr., Age 81, departed this life on Sunday, January 4, 2026. Son of the late Roland Anthony Becnel Sr. and Heloise Celeste Hymel Becnel. Roland was born on October 4, 1944, A native of Luling La. and a resident of Hahnville La. Roland met and married the love of his life Joan Marie Weaver in 1978. He was the loving Stepfather of Gregory Alexander Boyne and Jennifer Boyne Aupied. He was especially proud of his six grandchildren Matthew, Nathan, Erinn Aupied and Tyler, Ryley and Kamryn Boyne affectionately known to them as “Papa “. He is survived by his brothers Lewis, Sidney (Margaret), Robert (Patricia), Gerard (Rita), Earl (Rebecca), sisters Carolyn B. Zeringue (Late Paul), Cynthia B. Murphy, Miriam B. Palmisano (Joseph) and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by sister Juanita B. Haydel (David) Godparents Virginia H. Becnel and Albert T. Becnel (And aunts and uncles).
Roland graduated from Hahnville High School and attended the University of New Orleans.
In 1964 at the age of 19 Roland’s life changed dramatically when he was involved in an automobile accident which rendered him a quadriplegic for the remainder of his life. The next five years were devoted to rehabilitation including countless hand surgeries by internationally renowned pioneering surgeon, Dr. Daniel Riordan MD.
He graduated from Nicholls State University in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science degree in the College of Business Administration.
He began his career in 1975 as an accountant with St. Charles Parish and became the first full-time Treasurer and the last Parish Treasurer under the Police Jury system in St. Charles Parish in 1977. When the Parish transitioned into a Home Rule Charter Form of government in 1980, Roland facilitated the transition from Treasurer status to the Department of Finance. He was appointed by the Parish President as the first Director of the Department and retired in 2000 after 25 years of service. During those years, he instituted the first computerized financial payroll and Asset Management System for the Parish. He also helped facilitate the consolidation of the individual Water Works and Sewer Systems into parish-wide departments under the Home Rule Charter Government.
Roland was a Lector and CCD Instructor both at Saint Anthony of Padua in Luling and Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hahnville. He received The Order of St. Louis Medallion in 1990 in recognition of years of service to the Catholic Church.
Visitation will be held at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 13396 River Rd. Destrehan, LA, on Friday, January 16, 2026, at 10AM. Mass of Christian Burial to begin at 11AM with interment to follow in the church cemetery.
