Rosa Theresa Gravois Songy

Rosa passed away peacefully on July 15, 2025, at the age of 95. She was born and raised in Vacherie, LA by her parents, Ozane J. and Louise B. Gravois, the 12th of thirteen children. Rosa was the beloved wife of the late Russell D. Songy.

Russ and Rosa were the proud parents of 3 daughters, Kay S. Stiles (Payne) of Metairie, Denise S. Pierce (the late Louis) of Newnan, GA and Carol S. Savoie (Tony) of Baton Rouge.

Together, they enjoyed 10 grandchildren, Jay Stiles (Colleen), Russ Stiles (Jessica), Ryan Stiles (Stephanie), Lauren S. Cassara (Andy), Sarah S. Dusang (Kevin) Leslie S. Williams (Jess), Michelle S. Walker (Keith), Caroline S. Aguilar (Zach), Matthew T. Pierce, and Rachel P. Benson (Caleb). Rosa is also survived by 16 loving great grandchildren.

Mom’s priority was raising her daughters, but she also treasured bridge friends, St. Charles

Parish Art Guild, finding a Gravois patriot to become a Daughter of the American Revolution, and in her earlier years, a member of the St. Philip Catholic Daughters.

Mom and her siblings remained endeared to each other throughout their entire life. She is preceded in death by her 6 brothers, Rene, Guy, Lester, O.J., Earl and Charles Gravois; sisters, Adele, Denise, Stella, Rita, and Marie, blessed with many wonderful in-laws. She is survived by Jackie Waguespack of Thibodaux. Also survived by 2 sisters-in-law, Sr. Linda Songy and Tibby S. Davis (Chester). Mom was Aunt Rosa to countless nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral Mass on Thursday, July 24 at St. Charles Borromeo, 13396 River Road, Destrehan, 70047. Visitation will begin at 10AM, followed by services at Noon, officiated by Rev. Harry Bugler. Alexander Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family would like to thank the staff at the Pearl at Jamestown and Hospice of Baton Rouge for their care and compassion shown to Rosa in her final years.
