Sally Elizabeth Hernandez Estey

Sally Elizabeth Hernandez Estey, 97 Years old, entered into eternal life on September 7th, 2025. Sally was born on July 19, 1928 in Paincourtville, LA to a Cajun French speaking household. Once school started it was expected for all students to only speak English. She has lived in Harahan for most of her life. In her younger years she was most happy when out dancing and being with friends. In later years she enjoyed playing cards, going to the casino and spending time at the Harahan Senior Center. Sally had a joy for living life on her own terms. She could always be counted on to be welcoming with an infectious smile.

She is survived by her son, Ronald Estey (Karen) of St. Amant, LA, and daughter, Dottie Estey Acosta (Rick) of Destrehan, LA, daughter-in-law, Anne Estey of Harahan, LA, and grandchildren, Lori Estey, Danny Estey, Che’ Edwards, Justin Acosta, Nolan Ferrera and Layle Ferrera, some great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her father, Jean M. Hernandez, her mother, Ella Daigle Hernandez, her brothers, Fabian, Louis and Paul Hernandez, and sisters, Ella Mary Blanchard and Theresa Templet and by her son, Ricky Estey.

Special thanks to the Compassus Hospice team. They helped care for Sally during her illness at the home of her daughter. And especially thankful for the care she received at Ormond Nursing & Care Center in Destrehan.

She will be loved and missed by all who knew her. Per her wishes there will be no formal service. She would love for you to make a toast in her honor now and then.
