Alice L Lizana

Alice L. Lizana, 100, went to be with the Lord on January 23, 2012. She was born on March 2, 1911 in Portsmouth, VA the daughter of the late Jacques and Annie Lipp. Alice moved from Portsmouth to a farm in Ocean View and was a resident of Norfolk until she moved to Westminster-Canterbury in Virginia Beach in 1985. She was a Graduate of Maury High School. Alice was a hard worker. She worked at the Naval Base, was the secretary for St. John’s UMC and Wesley Memorial UMC; and retired as office manager for three local doctors. Alice was also a very active church worker. She was a teacher and pianist for the Ladies Class at Wesley Memorial UMC. Alice was preceded in death by two husbands, Cecil Brock and her beloved husband Raymond Lizana; sister, Frieda L. Brownley; brother, Jacques P. Lipp and niece, Lisa Mercer. Left to cherish her memory are several nieces and nephews; in particular, Jo Ann Claud and husband, Waring of Norfolk, Alton Mercer and wife Sharon of St. Charles, MO and great nephew, Raymond Mercer and wife Patricia of Laurel, MD; step-son, Raymond Lizana, Jr., and wife Merle and family of Virginia Beach. The family would like to thank the staff at Westminster-Canterbury for all of the love and care that was given to Alice. The family will receive friends on Friday, Jan. 27th from 10 – 11:00 AM in Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel. A funeral service will be conducted by the Reverend Fred Braswell at 11:00 AM in the chapel. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Westminster-Canterbury Foundation, 3100 Shore Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23451 in Alice’s name.
