Allan James Woodward (76) passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2020 in Norfolk, VA.

Allan was born in Arlington, MA on October 31, 1943 to the late Milford Otis and Edith Louise Woodward. Allan graduated from Lexington High School, class of ’61. Allan was a US Marine Corp and served 2 ½ tours in Vietnam. While serving, he received a Good Conduct Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal with 2 stars, a National Defense Service Medal, and was a Purple Heart recipient. Following his time in the military, Allan became an Aviation Electronics Mechanic for the Federal Government and was also a Dispatcher and Driver for Fuel Farm.

Allan loved drag racing his Chevelle in Greenville and New Bern, NC. He was a fan of football, baseball, hockey and NASCAR. Allan’s favorite hang-outs were Langley and Saluda. Allan was also a lifetime member of VFW Post #4809. Allan was known as a “Woody” or “Mr. Woody” throughout Estabrook and Ocean View. He loved cookouts and family gatherings. Allan could be found sitting in his front yard and waving to and striking up conversations with all who passed by. He had such a kind and friendly soul. His love for family and for God was abundant and over flowing.

The family wishes to say, “We love you, Daddy, and we will miss you forever!”

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Jennifer White (Stanley) and Catherine Woodward; his grandchildren, Allan Mattern (Gabby), Ashley Mattern, Priscilla Lopez, Megan Kimsey, Hailey Bess, and Jessica Woodward; his great-grandchild, Isabella Rollins; his sister, Margaret Welch; and his brother, Stanley Moschella. Allan is preceded in death by his parents, Edith Louise Woodward and Milford Otis Woodward; and his son, Douglas Woodward.

The family will hold a Memorial Service in Allan’s honor at a later date at the Albert G. Horton Jr. Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milners Rd., Suffolk, VA.
