Ann Juanita Ruffins peacefully joined her Lord and Savior on Monday, October 20, 2025, at 11:58 AM, at the age of 69, in her sister Gail's home in Virginia Beach, VA. Born in Franklin, VA, on December 31, 1955, she was the daughter of the late Helen Mildred Edwards and the late James Artis Edwards. Ann was preceded in death by her brother Johnnie Edwards, brothers-in-law Ramon Cannady Sr. and Dennis Luster, and sister-in-law Ora L. Hill.
Ann was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She took immense pride in loving and caring for her family, always emphasizing that family comes first, regardless of the circumstances. During her mother’s illness and until her passing, Ann stepped into the role of caretaker for her siblings. A strong and virtuous woman of faith, she selflessly prioritized others over her own needs. Even while facing health challenges, she remained determined to support her family and friends, playing a crucial role in countless lives. Her warmth and kindness touched many, including the FedEx delivery person who had numerous interactions with her and felt a deep sadness at her passing. Ann's contagious smile and vibrant spirit left a lasting impression on everyone she met, including co-workers, neighbors, and grocery store clerks. She had a passion for gardening, home décor, and cooking, often watching cooking shows and experimenting with new recipes.
Ann will be profoundly missed, yet her legacy of love, strength, and faith will continue to resonate through all the lives she influenced. Though she will be forever missed, she will never be forgotten.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Robert Welton Ruffins; son, Shaun Demont Edwards; Torin Manwell Ruffins (Tanisha); grandson, Ronnie Mayo; sisters, Gail E. Willis (Steven), Barbara Cannady, Tamara Stevens, and Paige Luster; brothers, Richard Edwards Sr. (Susan), Robert (Chris) Edwards, James Wade (Margaret), and Perry Edwards (Diane); aunts, Barbara Britt (John) and Gwendolyn Cherry (late Christopher Cherry); friend/niece, Monica Hill Turner (Dennis); bonus daughter, Tamekia Gray; bonus grandsons, Jaylen Williams, Julius Wallace, Richard Wallace; and bonus great-granddaughter, Alayah Williams.
She is also cherished by her sisters-in-law from Birmingham, AL—Dorothy Turner, Estelle Jackson, Regina Johnson, and Sharon Johnson—as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving friends.
She will be FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS
