Barbara Lee Celestial

Our loving mother, Barbara L. Celestial, 90, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2026 with her daughters by her side. Barbara was born in Virginia Beach, Virginia to her father, the late Elmo Brown, her mother, Dorothy Stakes Russell, and her stepfather, Warren Russell. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 38 years, Santiago "Sonny" Celestial and her longtime companion of many years, Rudy Bautista. Barbara cherished spending time with her family and caring for each of her grandchildren. She also loved dancing, tending to her garden, sewing, walking, and cooking meals that brought the whole family together. She adored her Shih Tzu, Angel, who was her long-time, loyal companion. In her later years, nothing lit up her eyes more than seeing her beloved great-grandchildren, whose presence filled her heart with joy.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters; Joni Coffee (Craig), Sherry Gorman (Phil), and Beverly Tala (Rick); grandchildren, Jason, Ashley (Matt), Courtney (Sean); great-grandchildren, Layla, Sonny, Mila, Cora, and Willa; and other loving family and friends. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Vangie and her compassionate staff at Angel's Loving Home Care for the exceptional care, kindness, and love they showed Barbara over the last two years. The family also extends their sincere appreciation to Medi Hospice for their support, guidance, and care during Barbara's final days.

Family and friends are invited to the funeral service to celebrate Barbara’s life at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk on Tuesday, July 21st at 11:00 a.m. Following the service she will be laid to rest beside her husband in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. A reception will follow.
