Barry W. Argabright, 75, passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at his home. Born on August 21, 1950, in Roanoke, Virginia, Barry spent his life rooted in the Commonwealth he called home, and was a resident of Chesapeake, Virginia. He will be remembered with deep respect and enduring affection by all who had the privilege to know him—beloved and cherished for his steady loyalty, his kind-hearted generosity, and the thoughtful ways he showed care for others.
Barry served his country in the U.S. Navy for six years and received an Honorable Discharge. That same devotion carried into his working life. In 1973, he began his career with Hampton Roads Transit as a Body Mechanic, a role that reflected his hard-working spirit and patient diligence. Over the course of 39 years of service, Barry earned admiration for his reliability and resilience—showing up, following through, and doing the work with quiet pride until his retirement in 2012.
Those closest to Barry knew a man who could meet life with compassion and selflessness, offering support without fanfare and giving of himself in ways both practical and heartfelt. He also carried a warm sense of humor—often the gentle kind that lightened a moment and brought people together. Whether facing the demands of duty, the responsibilities of work, or the everyday needs of family, Barry’s presence was marked by steadiness, generosity, and an enduring, devoted love.
Barry is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Nadine Argabright; his son, Brian Argabright; his sister, Carolyn Hatcher of Roanoke, Virginia; a grandson; and nieces and nephews.
