Betty Jean Hux, 92, died June 28, 2026, peacefully at home with her children surrounding her. Born in Norfolk, Virginia, on May 22, 1934, she built a life defined by steady devotion, quiet strength, and a gentle, compassionate way of caring for those around her.
In 2008, Betty moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia, to care for her mother, reflecting the selfless and thoughtful spirit that guided her choices. In 2017, she moved to a retirement community in Chesapeake, Virginia, where she embraced her golden years and the many new friends she met, offering the same kind-hearted warmth and patient presence that made her so cherished.
Betty was a full-time mother and homemaker who kept a spotless house, approaching daily life with hard work, honesty, and a generous attention to the needs of her family. When her children were older, she worked with her girlfriends in a hair salon as an operations manager, bringing wisdom, reliability, and a calm steadiness to all she did. She was also an Avon Lady, known throughout the neighborhood through her door-to-door sales and the sincere, friendly connections she formed along the way.
A member of the South Norfolk Moose Lodge, Women of the Moose Chapter 947, Betty enjoyed attending themed dinners and dancing the night away—moments that reflected her enduring spirit and the simple joy she found in community.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Robert (Bob) Hux, and her youngest daughter, Laura Lee Hux Carignan. She is survived by her daughter, Victoria Hux of Reston, Virginia; her son, Timothy R. Hux and his wife Kathy of Chesapeake, Virginia; her son-in-law, John Carignan of Pensacola, Florida; seven grandchildren, Christopher Carignan, Alexander Mark, Samuel Mark, Tyler Carignan, Jonathan Hux, Jeffery Hux, and Aaron Carignan; and a great-grandson, Cayden Hux.
