Betty W. Sawyer

Betty W. Sawyer 88, of Colonial Place, passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2018. She was a native of Norfolk and the daughter of the late John and Lucille Ward. She was a graduate of Maury High School. Betty retired in 1989 after working 23 years as a contract specialist at the Norfolk Naval Supply Center. She was an avid bowler, card player, and enjoyed traveling, especially to Atlantic City and Dover with her husband and friends. She was a devoted and loving grandmother to her two grandchildren. Betty was a past member of Epworth Methodist Church and a founding member of Faith Wesleyan Church. She was recently attending St. John’s United Methodist Church.

Betty was predeceased by her loving husband of 58 years, Milton S. Sawyer.

Left to cherish her loving memory are her daughter, Sherrie Sawyer Roman and her husband Joe, of Norfolk; son, Thomas Sawyer of Richmond; grandchildren, Devin and Matthew Roman of Norfolk; nieces, Betty Ballance, Pat Pennington, Sandra Manning, and Carol McNeel.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 10th, 2 PM, at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk. A reception will follow immediately in celebration of Betty’s life.
