

Norfolk– Charles H. Gallagher, Jr., 60, died January 27, 2011 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 13, 1950 to Charles H. Gallagher, Sr. and Nellie Stevens Gallagher in Washington, D.C. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Catherine J. Gallagher.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Nan, and their two daughters, Megan E. Gallagher and Caroline E. Gallagher of Norfolk. He enjoyed being a part of a close-knit family that included his father-in-law, Charles D. Pilcher and wife JoAnn; sister- and brother-in-law Chrissie and Kenny Skees; niece and nephews Allison Skees, Connor Skees, and Branden Skees; and future son-in-law Tom Hopkins. He also had many caring friends.
Mr. Gallagher grew up in Alexandria, Virginia and came to Norfolk in 1968 to attend Old Dominion University. He remained an avid supporter of the Monarchs throughout his life. He earned a bachelors degree in business and worked as a logistician at Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He retired in 2006 after 30 years of service.
Charles was a loving husband and devoted father. He was extremely proud of his family. His wife and daughters cherish many fond memories. His family and friends will always remember Charles for his upbeat personality, sense of humor, and love of music. He spent many happy hours playing the piano, guitar, and writing songs.
His family would like to thank all of the compassionate nurses and doctors that helped Charles during his treatment. They would also like to thank the many loyal friends who provided support during his illness.

A visitation will be held on Monday, January 31, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, 818 Norview Ave., Norfolk VA, 23509.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at 1:00 pm at Larchmont United Methodist Church, 1101 Jamestown Crescent, Norfolk VA 23508. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. You may offer condolences to the family at www.smithandwilliamsnorfolk.com.
