Charles P. Pierce

Charles Preston Pierce, 63, died peacefully on September 5, 2026, at the Hertford Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Hertford, NC. Born July 25, 1963, he was the son of Lloyd Rountree Pierce and Dorothy Tynch Pierce, both of whom preceded him in death.

A native of Norfolk, Virginia, Charles graduated from Booker T. Washington High School and Norfolk State University. He later retired from the Renaissance Academy in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Throughout his life, Charles was beloved and cherished by those who knew him—marked by a devoted spirit, a kind-hearted way of meeting others, and a thoughtful presence that made people feel seen. His generosity was often expressed in simple, steady acts of gratitude and care.

Charles was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Norfolk and its Shepard's Life Group Sunday School Class. During the last six months of his hospitalization and rehabilitation, he remained connected to his church family by joining the congregation via phone each Sunday to listen to the lessons—an enduring reflection of his devotion and the comfort he found in fellowship.

He is survived by and was cared for by his Aunt Linda T. Phthisic (Robert) and his cousin Patricia W. Allen (Don), as well as various extended cousins, special friends, and neighbors.

Linda and Patricia extend heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, aides, and staff of the hospitals and rehabilitation centers who provided care during Charles’s illness, for their kindness, professionalism, and dedication. Charles, in turn, made it a point to personally thank each person who came to his room to assist him—an enduring testament to his thoughtful and generous nature.

Visitation will be held at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk, VA 23502, on September 10, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm.

A Graveside Funeral Service and Committal will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens on September 10, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

In honor of Charles’s life, donations may be made to St. Jude's Research Hospital, Warrins in Motion, and the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
