Charles “Charlie” Reginald Walters, age 83, passed away on October 8, 2026. Born July 9, 1943, Charlie was a longtime resident of Norfolk, Virginia, and passed away peacefully in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Charlie faced multiple health conditions over the years with a steadfast determination and an unbreakable strength, meeting each challenge with resilience and courage that never wavered.
Charlie was preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his children, Cathy. He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Pauline; three daughters, Michelle Walters, Cindy Atwood (Scott), and Christina Jones (Alphonzo). Charlie also leaves behind three grandchildren, Christian Koschel, Kailyn Koschel, and Blair Walters; and one great-grandchild, Audree Rodgers, to cherish his legacy.
A man known for being both hard-working and kind-hearted, Charlie brought pride and persistence to everything he took on. He was committed to his work as the Building and Grounds Superintendent for Military Circle Mall well into the 1980’s. After retiring, he turned to entrepreneurship, keeping busy with various projects and seeing them through with care and determination; he never left a task unfinished, no matter the obstacle. His generous spirit and steady resolve were evident not only in what he did, but in the reliability and devotion with which he did it.
Charlie’s presence was cherished by those who knew him. He carried a warm sense of humor and a natural ease with people, earning friends wherever he went and becoming known to many as “Quite the Character.” Protective and loyal, he was also adventurous in the way he embraced life, Charlie truly enjoyed spending time with family, going out, taking road trips, visiting casinos, playing online poker and in his younger days riding roller coasters. He loved music, especially the musical stylings of James Brown. He brought that same lively energy into the everyday moments that his family will remember for a lifetime.
A Graveside Service will be held at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk, VA 23502, on October 13, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
