Clarence Woodrow Saunders

Clarence Woodrow “Woody” Saunders, 87, of Virginia Beach, died at 10:30 PM, Friday, October 16th, 2015 at Beth Shalom Village Retirement Community in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He was born September 12th, 1928 in Durham, North Carolina, to Raymond and Sallie Saunders. Woody’s wife; Mary Celestine Saunders, Brother; Raymond Wesley Saunders, and Sister; Hazel Boyles preceded him in death.

Woody was a long time resident of Virginia Beach where he retired with 40+ years as an aircraft mechanic from NARF the Naval Air Rework Facility in Norfolk. In his younger years he loved to hunt and fish. Later in life he enjoyed great food and going to church on Sunday.

Surviving loved ones include his daughter; Mary Best, his sons; Gerald Hofstede, Joe Saunders, Troy Saunders, Daughter’s in Law; Kathi Saunders and Dolly Saunders, many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The visitation is from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday, October 22, 2015 at the Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk, VA. The funeral service and burial will follow the next day at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 23, 2015, also at Woodlawn Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of Flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters, 601 Children’s Ln, Norfolk, VA 23507, which has taken wonderful care of his granddaughter Tiffany that he loved so much.
