Col. Donald Walter Hawker, USA (ret.)

Virginia Beach ~ Lt. Col. Donald Walter Hawker, USA (ret.), 75, passed away Friday, August 8, 2008 in his home. Born January 9, 1933 to the late Clarence and Rosa Hillare Hawker. Lt. Col. Hawker was retired from the US Army after 27 years of service and dedication to his country. He was a past High Preist of Grice Commandery Lodge #16 Norfolk, VA, a member of the Kempsville Masonic Lodge #196, past President of the Retired Officers Association and past President of the Cape Henry National Sojourners Chapter 424. Donald was an avid golfer, bowler, and bridge player. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Mary N. Hawker of Virginia Beach; son, Donald F. Hawker, Jr. (Liza) daughter, Lori A. Watkins (Artie) and son Timothy W. Hawker; six grandchildren, Jamie Simon-Rose (Chris), Lauren, Timothy “T.J.”, Elle, Nicky, Donna; three great-grandchildren, Seth, Caleb and Aiden; sister, Dorothy Relyea of New Mexico and several nieces and nephews. Donald is predeceased by a brother, Clarence “Buck” Hawker and a sister, Betty Humphries. A celebration of Lt. Col. Hawker’s life will be held 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 12, 2008 in Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd. with honors provided by the U.S. Army Honor Guard. Interment will be held 3:00 PM, Monday, November 3, 2008 in Arlington National Cemetery. The family will greet with friends in the funeral home immediately following the service.
