Mrs. Cordelia Ann Murray Hollenbeck, age 91, born into this world on April 12, 1934, in Neodesha, KS, passed peacefully to her eternal home on November 1, 2025, at her residence in Virginia Beach, VA. She was the only child born to the late Lynden and Myrtle Murray.
Cordie, as she was affectionately known, dedicated her life to helping others, she was a homemaker who spent over 25 years volunteering for the City of Virginia Beach Courts, helping battered and abused women to move forward and find hope. During her time with the court, Cordie played a vital role in developing the FANS (Family Advocacy Network Services) program, that is still helping victims of domestic abuse today. She was very passionate about recruiting and training qualified volunteers to work with the program. She also held weekly meetings for abused spouses at Thalia Lynn Baptist Church.
Her family was always a top priority. She took much pride in her husband, children and grandchildren. She was a shining light in the lives of all that had the privilege of knowing her. Her journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion and unwavering faith in God. Her passing has left a void in the hearts of her family, friends, caregivers, and many more whose lives were touched by her.
She is survived and missed by her loving husband of 74 years, Homer M. Hollenbeck (98), Her four children Ginger S. Peterson (Pete) of Waverly, NY. Marion L. Hollenbeck (Jeannette) of Virginia Beach, VA, Michael W. Hollenbeck (Debra) of Ocala, FL, and Lisa E Hallak of Virginia Beach, VA. 7 grandchildren, 17 great grand, and 7 great great grandchildren. She also leaves behind a host of other family members, friends, and caregivers who will miss her dearly.
After graduating from Labette County High School in Kansas, Cordie studied for a brief time at Baptist Bible College in Missouri, before marrying the love of her life and starting a family. Besides spending quality time with her family, Cordie enjoyed sewing, quilting, game shows, puzzles, and playing the piano.
We ask that you remember her, not for the way her life ended, but for the way it was lived; and for the profound impact it had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing her. Although Cordie’s presence may no longer grace our lives, her spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us. May her memory be a blessing and may we carry on her legacy of love, compassion, and forgiveness in all that we do.
Services to honor the life of Cordelia A. Hollenbeck will be held at Woodlawn Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at 11am. Visiting hours will be Tuesday, November 11 from 6pm-8pm.
