David Lee Cunningham

He was 1 of 10 children born to Jessie and Alice Cunningham. Dave, as he was affectionately known, is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth(Betty), his brother Edward, sisters-in-laws Mary Cunningham, Marlene Jackson and Serena Peebles, step-children Tracy Riordan(Betty) and Carol Rampele(Berta), grandchildren Joey, Jason, Daryl, Richard, Melissa, and great-grandchildren Jeremy, Kaylee, Peyton, and Travis.

Dave was predeceased by his parents Alice and Jessie, his first wife Berta, brothers Dale, Bob and Aubrey, sisters Ruth, Pat, and Lorraine, stepchildren David Riordan(Betty) and Charles Riordan(Betty).

Dave served 20+ years in the US Navy, retiring in 1982 after serving on multiple ships as a Gunner’s Mate. Dave received numerous service medals during his time, serving through the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Post Navy career Dave explored other careers as the owner/operator of the former Cunningham's Sunoco in Virginia Beach, as a Realtor for William E Wood, and many other odd jobs.

Dave was an active member of the St Andrews Methodist Church in Virginia Beach, a long-tenured member of the Lynnhaven Masonic Lodge and the Khedive Temple Shriners, where he served in the Legion of Honor and Mini Motors groups.

For all who knew him, Dave was the kindest soul who was always willing to help anyone. His philanthropic work with the church, the Masonic Lodge and the Shriners were his favorite ways to give back to the community and the less fortunate.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11am on Friday, September 5, 2025, at the Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk, VA. The family is inviting friends to pay their respects the hour prior. Burial to follow services in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
