Debra Lu Bruff

Debra Lu Thomasson Bruff, 70, passed away on October 8, 2025. She was born in Virginia to the late John Flemming Thomasson, Sr. and Hazel Bertha Cofer Thomasson. Debra married her husband, Jimmy, on October 18, 1975 and shared nearly 50 years of marriage with him. They had a number of adventures: travel to Hawaii, Alaska, and Disneyworld and even lived in New Jersey for a time. Debra was kind hearted and was always willing to help others, but her beautiful smile is what everybody loved about her the most. She was a member of the Kings Grant Elementary cafeteria staff for over 25 years. She was a long time member of First Baptist Norfolk and she greatly enjoyed attending Bible study there.

Left behind to cherish her memory is her husband, Jimmy; son, Matthew Kyle Bruff; brothers, John Flemming Thomasson, Jr. and Mark Aaron Thomasson; sister-in-law, Patricia Bruff; mother-in-law, Soi-wa Bruff; and a host of other family members. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Steven K. Bruff and sister-in-law, Barbara Sue Dunn.

The family invites friends for a time of visitation on Wednesday, October 22, 2025 from 6-8 p.m. at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk. The memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2025 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Norfolk, 312 Kempsville Road, Norfolk. Debra will be privately laid to rest in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
