

Born in Coeburn, VA in 1947, he was a lifelong resident of Norfolk, where he grew up with parents Bill and June Skeen, brother Tommy Skeen, and sister Kaye Skeen Beaver. He attended Granby High School, served in the Army National Guard, and owned a subcontracting business where his many clients included Old Dominion University.
He was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend to many. He never met a stranger and was beloved by his family who will miss him greatly while cherishing his great spirit.
A public funeral and celebration of life for Dickie and Nancy will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Woodlawn Funeral Home, followed by a private burial in Suffolk, Va.
Nancy Bryn (Cummings) Skeen of Norfolk passed away at home on Sept. 28, 2015.
Born Feb. 17, 1950 in Morristown, NJ she was the daughter of Renwick S. and Julianna (Novotney) Cummings. She was the wife of Dickie Skeen who died Oct. 25, 2015 and mother of Logan Skeen and Lindsay (Christopher) Ricks. She was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter Angela and sister Constance P. Cummings. She is survived by her sister Marren (Robert) Berthold, niece Heather (Thomas) Stearns and nephew Robert A. Berthold (Lara) and three grandnieces. Nancy spent her career in the travel industry after graduation from Elon College and ODU. A member of Tabernacle Church, she was a loving mother and animal rescuer. Christmas was her time of joy and celebration.
A joint memorial service will be held at Woodlawn Funeral Home at 1 pm on Friday, Oct. 30 for family and friends. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made a fund set up to pay for funeral expenses c/o Lindsay Skeen Ricks.
