Dorothy Jane Kanter

Dorothy Jane Kanter, 87, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2016. She was born on October 31, 1928 in Port Chester, NY. She traveled the world as a military wife ultimately settling in Norfolk, Virginia where she raised her family then spent her final years residing in Chesapeake.

Dorothy spent her working career as a Ward Secretary at Norfolk General Hospital retiring in 1990 then volunteering there for many years afterward. She loved family, sewing and especially pets, hers and everyone else’s.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 68 years, Gerald Kanter; sons, Daryl F. Kanter and wife Rebecca of Milton, FL. and Gerald T. Kanter and wife Lynn of Chesapeake; daughter, Janice S. Klasek of Va. Beach, five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Family will receive friends on Saturday, July 16 from 5-7PM at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Va. Beach Blvd., Norfolk, Va. followed by a chapel service at Woodlawn Funeral Home on Sunday, July 17 at noon.
