Earl W. Combs

Norfolk - Earl W. Combs, 82 passed away July 28, 2013. He was born June 6, 1931 in High Point, NC to the late Turner Combs and Nora McDonald. Mr. Combs proudly served as a firefighter with the Norfolk Fire Department retiring with over 35 years of service. He was longtime member of Temple Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and on the house and grounds committee. He was an active member of the IAFF. Mr. Combs was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sylvia A. Combs; son, David H. Combs and his wife Terrie; daughter, Angela Echols and her husband Mark; step-sons, Jeffery Hunter and Thomas Hunter Jr. and his wife Cindy; grandchildren, Monica Roach and her husband Tim, Benjamin Derksen, Brad Combs and his wife Leah-ann, Joshua Derksen; and Jessica Barnett and her husband Jeff; and five great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by a son, Earl W. Combs, Jr.

The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m., Thursday, August 1, 2013 at Temple Baptist Church, 3300 Tidewater Drive, Norfolk, VA 23509. A service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 2, 2013 at Temple Baptist Church with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
