

Virginia Beach- Earl Ellenberger 89 of Norfolk, Virginia passed away Saturday October 15, 2011. He was the son of the late Glenn and Clara Ellenberger of Punxsutawney PA. He was born and raised in Punxsutawney PA where he graduated from Saints Cosmas & Damien High School. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 53 years Rita Richard Ellenberger. He is survived by a devoted friend Ora Lee Ingham of Virginia Beach and his children and their spouses, Gary Ellenberger (Sandra), Richard Ellenberger (Patricia) and Gale Ellenberger Shpil (George). He is also survived by his brother Donald Ellenberger of Munhall PA.
Earl had 7 grandchildren, John Barry Ellenberger, James Matthew Ellenberger, Brian David Ellenberger, Bryan Lee Hopkins (Shpil), Amy Ellenberger, Kyle Ellenberger and Casey Ellenberger. He had 5 great grandchildren, Alauren, Madelyn, Riley, Carsen and Blake Ellenberger.
Earl was a WWII Navy veteran stationed at the Norfolk Naval Air Station as an Aviation Machinist. After serving in the Navy, Earl worked and retired as a civil service employee at the Production Engineering Department of the Naval Air Rework Facility (NARF).
Earl was one of the founders of the Norfolk Little League, now known as the Azalea Little League, where he coached. He is a past president of the Norview High School Booster’s Club and assistant coach for the Christ the King boys basketball team. Earl was 60+-year member of the Christ the King Church.
He was an avid golfer. Earl had 4 holes-in-one in his lifetime. He was a member of the Lake Wright Golf Association where he also worked part time. Earl was a member of the Norfolk Moose Lodge #39.
The family will receive friends at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd. Norfolk, on Tuesday, October 18, from 6pm - 8pm. Funeral services will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church on Wednesday, October 19, at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ the King Church, 1803 Columbia Ave, Norfolk VA 23509.
