Eleanor Anna Moore

Eleanor Anna Moore beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away on August 15, 2026. Eleanor was born in Queens Village, N.Y on January 10, 1930 to Hilda and Frank Oschetski. She graduated in 1948 from Jamaica Vocational High School for Girls, with an emphasis in stenography and office machines. In 1947, she met the love of her life, Gene Moore, in Oahu, Hawaii while visiting with her father and where Gene was stationed with the Navy. After a long distance courtship they were married in 1949 and were married for 67 years.

Eleanor started her life’s adventure as the wife of a naval officer living in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; London, England and many places on the east coast of the United States. In her mid-twenties Eleanor was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis which she suffered from the rest of her life. Arthritis did not keep Eleanor from being a devoted wife and loving mother to five rambunctious children.

In 1969 the family moved to Virginia Beach where Gene retired from the Navy. Virginia Beach was right place for Eleanor to settle because she loved the beach and spent many happy days swimming in the ocean and basking in the sun with her family.

For many years she volunteered for “Meals on Wheels” and was a very active member of the “Catholic Ladies Altar Guild “at the little Creek Chapel. Eleanor developed an interest in watercolor painting and was a member of the “Chesapeake Bay Watercolorist Society.” She loved gardening and enjoyed the big garden she and Gene planted in their backyard. She played bridge with friends and traveled with Gene throughout the United States and several countries.

Eleanor is preceded in death by her husband Gene, her sister Rita Kraust, and son Alan Moore. She is survived by her older sister Hilda Kovzelove, her children Linda Loughran (Chris), David Moore (Cathy Holley), Susan Land (David Jones), Tim Moore (Lisa), eight grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
