CDR Elizabeth Lee Morrison

CDR. Elizabeth Lee Morrison, 81, known to many as Libby passed away peacefully in her home on March 25, 2022. She was born in Longview, Texas on January 2, 1941 to the late Ruby Willette and L.D. Morrison.

She attended Longview High School and was a Distinguished Alumni. Libby also attended the University of Texas. She entered her life long career in the United States Navy which started in Corpus Christi, Texas in 1964. CDR. Morrison traveled extensively throughout her career in the United States Navy until she retired after 27 years of service as CDR 1988. Libby met her lifelong partner in crime, Linn McDowell in 1973 for their adventures together.

She was a member of the Horton Wreath Society and past president of the Level Green Civic League. She was an avid bowler, a member of the Military Women of Tidewater Unit 152, a supporter of women in military service for America Women’s Memorial and she was an admin. volunteer with the VA Beach Fire Department, Chesapeake General Hospital and a driver for the Cancer Society.

Libby will be remembered by her humanitarian service, her contagious smile and laugh, and her giving heart of gold. She knew no strangers and would help anyone.

I would especially like to thank all the wonderful caregivers, specifically: Jaimie, Kelli, Laurie, Maz, Marneisha, Abiola and Heartland Hospice for the superb care of her throughout the years as she battled with Alzheimer’s.

She will be greatly missed and the memories we have will last us a lifetime. Libby has a glow and energy that would fill a room. Not to mention her red, white and blue hair. She is now in her eternal resting place with her loving parents in heaven and they are together again.

A service will be held on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at 11am at Albert G. Horton Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milners Rd., Suffolk, VA 23434. A reception will follow at 1pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk VA 23502. You may offer your condolences at www.woodlawnnorfolk.com.
