

Evan Gregory Young, Sr., age 86, of Virginia Beach, Virginia passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2025. Evan was born in Belize City, Belize to the late Donald Hugleford and Anne Elizabeth MacFadzean Young. He was proceeded in death by his two sisters Marlene “Molly” Fonseca and Daphne Lizama. Prior to coming to the United States, Evan worked for the Belizean People’s United Party (PUP), supporting Prime Minister George C. Price as a reporter and an assistant manager for the Belize Times, the party’s political newspaper. After his time with the political newspaper, he worked for the Belize Lands and Survey Department as a land surveyor. He loved his native country of Belize and held fond memories of his time there as a young man. He ultimately decided to leave Belize for educational and career opportunities in the United States.
He settled in New York City and worked at the United Nations in an administrative support role. Upon leaving the United Nations, he was hired as an entry level site manager with Edison Parking Corporation. After several assignments he retired from Edison Parking as a Regional Project Manager. He decided to go back to work with the Norfolk International Airport Authority where he remained employed for an additional nineteen years. Evan pursued his higher education at Columbia University, City College of New York, and Hunter College. He held significant interests in sports, most notably American Football and Basketball. He was a long-time church member and usher at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Evan loved people and had a magnetic personality. He could hold a conversation on any topic and had a broad range of knowledge and wisdom. He would give you the shirt off his back, was known for his generosity and willingness to give to those in need.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 58 years, Marcia Young; son, Evan "Gregory" Young, Jr., and his wife Tania Renee Young; and grandson’s, Evan Joseph Young and Mason Gregory Young of Cleveland, Ohio. He leaves behind three brothers Barney, Henry, Roy Young, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
Rest in peace Vando, EV, Dad, Baba, and Uncle E. We will miss you forever. The Young Family would like to extend our gratitude to all our friends and family for their outpouring love and comforting words.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, June 5, 2025, at 11:00 am at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 5345 Virginia Beach Blvd., Virginia Beach, Virginia 23462. The family will receive friends the hour prior. A graveside committal will occur at 11:00 am on Monday, June 9, 2025 at Woodlawn Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk, Virginia 23502.
