

Evelyn Hewitt Williard a life long resident of Hampton Roads passed away June 20th in her home at Westminster-Canterbury on the Chesapeake Bay. She was born in Norfolk on October 26, 1925 to William Claude Hewitt and Sarah Armstrong Hewitt. Her parents and her brother William Claude Hewitt, JR predeceased her.
Evelyn was a graduate of Maury High School and attended the Norfolk Division of the College of William and Mary. She spent her youth helping her family run a neighborhood grocery store and also spent time in New York City modeling. After marriage she worked with her husband at Shawn’s Launch Service, Inc., which they co-owned from 1963-1978.
Evelyn was a member of Thalia Lynn Baptist Church, Cape Henry Women’s Club, Thalia Friendship Honary Circle of the King’s Daughters and the Cavalier Golf and Yacht Club.
Evelyn’s true passion in life was found in the love of her family. She was married to the late Daniel Smith Williard for 62 years. She is survived by her two loving sons, Danny and Billy, their wives Mary Lou and Karla, three grandsons, Trey and wife Alexis, Wade and Garrett all of Virginia Beach.
Evelyn’s last two and a half years at Westminster-Canterbury were filled with wonderful new friends and care from a devoted staff. The family would like to thank everyone for making her last years so happy.
Woodlawn Funeral Home, Norfolk, VA, will handle funeral arrangements. The burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers the family requested contributions be made to the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughter Fund, 601 Children’s Lane, Norfolk, Virginia 23501 or to the charity of choice.
Evelyn was a devoted Mother always putting her family first and foremost. Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.
