Frances "Frankie" A. Finch, 81, went home (in every sense of the word) on March 21, 2026. While her family attempted to gather around her to be with her at the end, she stubbornly passed away in the quiet by herself. She died the way she lived, on her own terms and wearing one of her many, many Mardi Gras shirts.
Frankie was born in Mobile, Alabama to the late Ferdinand J. and Annie "Iris"Haynes Reinhart. She attended what is now McGill-Toolen Catholic High School and playing bass and performing in various concerts was a cornerstone some of her most cherished memories. Following high school, Frankie joined the Navy, but health issues limited her time in service. Returning home to Alabama, she worked for McGowan Lines. Coworkers at McGowan set her up on a blind date with her future husband of over 50 years, John "Johnny" Finch. Johnny's work led them to Pensacola, Florida where they started their family with son, Paul and daughter, Terri. Johnny's job moved them again to Hawaii until his retirement 10 years later returned them to Mobile, Alabama.
Not one to stay idle long, Frankie made her mark on whatever community she was a part of. She volunteered and coached in church sports leagues, either basketball, softball or volleyball, or any sports that her children were involved in. Once in Hawaii, Frankie became a bartender and worked for MWR at Pearl Harbor. She worked through the ranks and eventually became the bar manager of the Pearl Harbor Officer's Club. On her return to Mobile, Frankie became the full time caregiver to her parents and eventually her husband. Following her husband's extended illness and eventual death, Frankie relocated to Virginia to be with her daughter.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband and sister, Sandra. Left behind to cherish her memory are her son, Paul; daughter, Terri; daughter-in-law, Kim; grandchildren, Richelle, Cameron, Mary Grace (Joshua), Kevin, Collin, and Lucas; sister, Rosie; sisters-in-law, Catherine and Marie; several beloved nieces and nephews; and numerous other family and friends. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Wings over Virginia Hospice, especially Monica, Claudia and Oli, for their tender care, tireless support, and unending patience.
Except for the new bar concoctions she got to sample on occasion and watching football with her grandson, Frankie missed the familiarity and comfort of Mobile. There are no services planned for her in Virginia. A Mass will be done in Mobile at a later date. Please visit her webpage at www.woodlawnnorfolk.com to leave a note of condolence to her family. In lieu of flowers, please consider a kindness donation in her honor...take a kid fishing, buy a round (especially Jameson) for the table next to you, or pet the next friendly dog you come across.
