

Gayleen P. Gilbert, 77, passed away at her home March 13, 2011. She was born in Enterprise, Kansas to the late Herbert L. and Ethel M Peck. Gayleen was a devoted member of Providence Presbyterian Church (USA) in Virginia Beach. She was involved in many activities there which included Elder and chair of fellowship committee. Gayleen was a member of the Daughter of American Revolution (Thoroughgood Chapter), Colonial Chapter of Virginia, Freedom Foundation of Valley Forge, and Order of Eastern Star Kempsville Chapter #173. She enjoyed playing Bridge with her group for over 30 years, bowling, golfing and she was an avid NFL fan. She also loved to help in the community by volunteering at City Hall in Virginia Beach at the First Impression Desk, and with the Red Cross and Navy Relief.
She was predeceased by her parents Herbert and Ethel Peck; her sisters Marguerite Stebner, Darlene Thayer, and Gertrude Wendelken; and her daughter-in-law Brenda Gilbert. Gayleen leaves to cherish her memory her husband of almost 60 years Floyd Gilbert; her daughter Pam Gilbert Conde (Raul); two sons Steven Gilbert and Tracy Gilbert (Jennifer); two sisters Vivian Bruce and Gladys Braddy; one brother Arthur Peck; grandchildren Carrie Herzke (John), Ashley Miller (Nick), Sarah and Aaron Gilbert; one great-grandson Jack Herzke.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, March 16, 2011 from 6 pm to 8:30 pm in Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd. Norfolk. A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 17, 2011 at 10:30am, at Providence Presbyterian Church, 5497 Providence Road Virginia Beach, VA 23464, a "Celebration of Gayleen's Life" will immediately follow at the church with cake and coffee. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4416 Expressway Drive, Virginia Beach, VA23462 or Providence Presbyterian Youth Activities, 5497 Providence Road Virginia Beach, VA 23464.
