Dr. Grace White Setzer
May 10, 1935 – July 1, 2020

Dr. Grace White Setzer was born in Hawkins County, TN on May 10, 1935. She was educated in the public school system of Lynchburg, VA and graduated from Dunbar High School in 1952. She attended Howard University, where she joined the Alpha Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She transferred to Fisk University, receiving a B.A. in Music. She also received a M.A. in Special Education from the University of Virginia and a Ph.D. in Special Education Administration from the University of Southern Illinois. She was preceded in death by her natural and adoptive parents, two brothers (William Hoard and Phillip Hoard), two nieces, (Donna Hogan and Sandra Hoard), and one nephew (Howard Hoard). She is survived by a brother (A. Roger Hoard), sister (Doreatha Charles and her devoted husband, Carroll), sister-in-law (Linda Hoard), nieces (Patricia Hoard, Shaunnellia Rice, Carol Adams, Linda Hamilton), nephews (Mark Charles, Phillip Hoard, Jr., and Walter Scott Hoard), and a number of grand and great nephews and nieces.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11am, Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at Woodlawn Funeral Home. An inurnment will immediately follow the service at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
