Helena Alice (Edwards) Chambers, 92, was born on July 7th, 1924. She passed from this life to her eternal home in Heaven on February 14th, 2017. She is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Charles William Chambers, her parents and all of her siblings.
Helena had four children, Charles William Chambers, Jr. (Bill) and his wife Susan, Karen Moore and her husband Ken, Deborah Vardaro and husband Bruce, Joseph Chambers and fiancée Brenda Roesch. She also has a niece Barbara Smith who she considered a daughter. She has 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Helena leaves behind a legacy of faith, love and compassion that was extended to her family and friends and strangers alike. No need that she was aware of in anyone’s life was ever left unmet. Her family counts it a privilege to have had her as an example to follow.
We can only imagine the celebration that took place in heaven when she entered the gates of glory on Valentine’s Day. She was so in love with the Lord. Our family believes He took her home on that particular day as a sign to us that she was His sweetheart too.
Listening to her pray during the last days of her life, we were touched by her continued prayers for her family and friends. Each prayer was ended by the following benediction: "Dear Lord, make me a better person tomorrow than I was today, and please help me always to be kind."
May we all follow her example.
"Well done thy good and faithful servant."
A visitation will be Friday, February 17, 6-8pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home and the Funeral Service will be Saturday, February 18, 2pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home Chapel. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.woodlawngroup.com.
