Irene A. Hewitt

She was born an only child on June 22, 1930 and transitioned into eternal life on July 17, 2013. Her mother Florida Robinson Hodges, and father Leo R. Perkins and husband, Robert S. Hewitt Sr., predeceased her.

She was a former resident of Chesterfield Heights, a Norfolk neighborhood. In her heyday she was a humble housewife, used her energies to help others; actively participated civically in her community and auxiliaries of Abyssinia Baptist Church, Norfolk. Our mother will be remembered for an affable smile, loyalty and style. She valiantly fought a plight of many illnesses during her lifetime and was an example of preserving strengths during her earthly labors.

She was widowed in 2002 and found joyful peace, at The Gardens of Virginia Beach, Five Star Senior Living with their compassionate care. Mother leaves her love to: two daughters, Portia M. Hedgespeth (George Jr.) of Troy, MI and Robin H. Colvin of Chesapeake; three sons, Larry M. Meade (Judith) of Reston, Douglas K. Meade of Leesburg and Robert S. Hewitt Jr. of Norfolk; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

In her honor, a funeral will be held Saturday at 11am at Woodlawn Funeral Home and Crematory, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk Viewing will commence Friday from 6-8pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home. Condolence may be left at www.woodlawngroup.com.
