

James Brooks Dixon, 89 years old, left this world peacefully on the early morning of August 14, 2015 with loved ones by his side. He was the oldest of six children, born to the late T. R. Dixon and Leona Elks on March 26, 1926 in Grimesland, NC. He was preceded in death by his brother, Quinton Dixon; sister, Audrey James; brothers-in-law, Milton Cox and Bud Gladson; sister-in-law, Thelma Dixon. “Brooks” served his nation proudly in the U.S. Coast Guard (Navy) aboard the U.S.S. Eugene in the South Pacific during WWII. He retired as a supervisor with the Weyhauser Corporation. Daddy was a dedicated husband and loved his family as much as they loved him. He was an honest, faithful, generous, hardworking and honorable man. Left to cherish our beloved daddy’s memory is his devoted and deeply loved bride of 60 years, Barbara, his daughters Judith O’ Connor (David), Janet Wray, son, Paul Greene (Tina Fisher), granddaughters; Deirdre’ Hamilton, Amanda Golisano, Shawna Greene and Susan Lewis, grandsons; Aaron O’Connor, Justin, Daniel and Josh Wray and Adam Greene. Also surviving, are sisters Margie Cox and Maxine Gladson; brother, Bobby Gene Dixon; 16 great grandchildren, one future great granddaughter, 2 great –great grandchildren, plus many nieces and nephews. In his spare time he enjoyed gardening, cooking for his family and friends, and spending time with his family; and to be noted his devotion to his automobiles was legendary! The family wishes to recognize and express a heartfelt thank you to Ida, Malou, Romeo, Chris, and the other wonderful people who showed devotion, compassion, dignity, respect and love to our dear father. The kindness and great care that only angels can provide, your attentiveness was tremendous and we are forever grateful. It was a blessing to us and “Grandpa”. Our daddy will be greatly missed and forever loved. Give Chelsea a kiss for us Daddy, until we are all together forever. You will live on in our hearts. A visitation will be held Wednesday, August 19, 2015, 11am -1pm with the Funeral Service immediately following at Woodlawn Funeral Home 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd Norfolk, Virginia 23502 In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association or the National Parkinson Foundation.
