

James Edward Hardesty, Sr., went to be with Lord on March 8, 2026. He was born in Washington to the late Durward U. and Lona Richmond Hardesty. James proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Following his time in the service James worked as a Nissan/Datsun master technician for over 50 years.
James was a loving father and grandfather. He was a car and boat builder, carpenter and avid sailor having enjoyed many sailboat races and awards with his children. James had a spirit of excellence. He never met a project that he couldn't master or a person that he couldn't befriend and mentor. James is loved by all who knew him and his legacy goes on and on.
Cherishing his memory are his loving wife of 40 years, Mary, five sons and 3 grandchildren: James, Jr., wife Susan, grandson Gage and granddaughter Reagan, Carey, Randy, Daniel, Nicholas, wife Mickala and granddaughter Juniper. Countless family and loving friends whose lives are forever touched.
A time of visitation will be held on Monday, March 16, 2026 from 4-8 p.m. at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk. The funeral will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 17, 2026 at 2 p.m. He will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens following the funeral.
