James A. Thigpen

James Arthur Thigpen, better known as “Jim”, age 74, and a resident of Virginia Beach, VA, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at his residence. Born in Willacooche, Georgia on August 11, 1940, he was the son of the late Ira L. Thigpen and the late Marie Moore Thigpen. Jim retired from the Navy with 20 years of service and from Civil Service also with 20 years of service.

Jim is survived by his wife of Fifty years of marriage, Carol L. Thigpen; a son, John Thigpen of Virginia Beach; a daughter, Jacqueline A. Dickson and her husband Greg of Virginia Beach; daughter-in-law, Jamie Thigpen of TN; two sisters, Eloise Vanadore of GA, Latrelle Spence of SC; a brother, Leon Thigpen of GA; 7 grandchildren, Tiffany Thigpen, J.D. Thigpen, John Hill, Anthony Thigpen, Andrew Thigpen, Christopher Dickson and Zachary Dickson and 1 great-grandchild, Paetan Mulligan.

He was predeceased by a son, James A. Thigpen, Jr., and two brothers, Bernice Thigpen and William B. Thigpen.

A memorial service honoring Jim’s life will be held at Woodlawn Funeral Home on Sunday, October 26, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with Military Honors. The Rev. Ernest Trueblood will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, 2730 Ellsmere Ave., Norfolk, VA 23513.
