

James Curtis (Tip) Tipton, 76 passed away Monday, July 11th, 2011 at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Judith Tipton and four children; George Callender III and wife, Sylvia of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; Pamela Helmick and husband Charles of Warrenton, Virginia; Kelly Peterson of Virginia; and Christie Miller of Virginia Beach. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Nicholas, Emma, Kimberly, Gabriela and Julia. Tip retired after twenty years of faithful service in the United States Navy. He served in SEAL Team TWO during the Vietnam era and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with Combat "V" and Gold Star in lieu of second award with Combat "V", as well as other significant awards. While on active duty, he served as the first President of the UDT-SEAL Association and currently was a member of the UDT-SEAL Board of Directors. After retirement, Tip continued his professional career as a Magistrate for the city of Virginia Beach Court System. Memorial services for Tip will be held at 10 A.M. Monday, July 18th, 2011, in the Little Creek Amphibious Base Chapel. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Condolences may be offered online at www.woodlawngroup.com.
