Jeffrey Gordon Licht, 69, of Virginia Beach, VA, embarked on his final voyage on December 7, 2023. Born on January 28, 1954, in Perham, MN, Jeffrey was a true captain of character who navigated the waters of life with charm and wit. He set sail from Alexandria, MN, and charted a course filled with love and laughter.
Jeffrey's greatest treasures were his family and friends. He leaves behind his beloved wife of a remarkable 49 years, Anne Cuffe Licht, who was his anchor in life's stormy seas. His children, Erin Licht Wasenius and her husband Thomas Wasenius, Todd Licht, and son-in-law Sean Kershaw, were his pride and joy. Jeffrey's grandchildren, Alexandria Marie, Nicholas Roy, Cody Thomas, and great-grandson Acen Bradley brought him endless joy and laughter. His sisters, Karen Licht Wibstab and Kathy Licht Stowe, were his partners in crime throughout their lives.
He was preceded in crossing the horizon by his brother Douglas Licht, mother Marleen Reintsma Licht, father James Licht, and daughter Stacy Licht Kershaw.
During his distinguished naval career, Jeffrey served the United States Navy as Chief Petty Officer for 22 years, fearlessly braving the seas. From 1972 to 1994, he sailed the seven seas, leaving his mark on the world. After docking his ship, Jeffrey found a new harbor at Map Mobil Communications in Chesapeake, VA. There, he expertly navigated the waters of Human Resources and Accounting from 1994 to 2016, leaving a legacy of excellence.
Jeffrey's shore leave was filled with delightful pastimes. He could often be found teeing off on the golf course, cheering on his favorite college football team, or orchestrating mouthwatering barbecues with his loved ones. He found solace and camaraderie at Hope Lutheran Church in Virginia Beach, VA, where he anchored his spirit.
A celebration of Jeffrey's life will be held on January 19, 2024, at Woodlawn Funeral Home in Norfolk, VA. The services will commence at 12:00pm, followed by a graveside ceremony at 1:00pm and a reception at 2:00pm. The crew at Woodlawn Funeral Home will be extending their helping hands to ensure a smooth voyage.
As we bid farewell to our beloved captain, let us gather to share tales of his adventures and honor the legacy he leaves behind. Jeffrey will forever be remembered for his buoyant spirit and the laughter he brought to our lives. May his spirit continue to guide us through life's uncharted waters, reminding us to embrace every moment with a twinkle in our eyes and a smile.
