

Mr. Jerry Stewart Stanley, 75, passed away very peacefully with his loving family at his side on March 21, 2012. Mr. Stanley was born in Charleston, West Virginia on May 27, 1936 to James Herald Stanley and Edna Earl Stricklen Stanley. He was a 1954 graduate of DuPont High School in Belle, West Virginia and attended Morris Harvey College. CWO-4 Stanley was a decorated Veteran who served his country for twenty-six years in the US Navy. Upon his retirement, he worked eighteen years as a Facility Manager for Tracor Inc., a defense electronics company in Chesapeake, Virginia. Jerry lived life to the fullest. He was a golf enthusiast and loved spending time with former shipmates. Sports were a passion, especially racing, the Washington Redskins, the St. Louis Cardinals, and West Virginia University events.
A man of honesty, integrity and fairness, he faithfully taught his children and grandchildren to respect and embrace these qualities. He adored his grandchildren and celebrated their accomplishments. Jerry dearly loved his bride Carolyn; there was nothing he wouldn't do for her. His family was the center of his life and he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. As always, he was brave and faced his fate with courage. He will be sorely missed by all.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, brothers James Stanley and Richard Stanley, and sister Ann Bonham. Surviving are his loving wife of 56 years, Carolyn Virginia Stanley; children; Jerri Jackson and husband Harry, Tina Dubois and husband Marc, Chris Stanley, all of Virginia Beach, and Dale Stanley and wife Kimberly of Greensboro, North Carolina; grandchildren, Eryn Stanley, Holly St. Luce and husband Justin, Jason Dubois Sr., Cherie Street and husband Ty, Alyssa Jackson, Brian Stanley; step grandson Munib Mootassem; great grandchildren; Jason Dubois Jr. and Carson Street; and one great grandchild on the way, Kamden St. Luce; brother Larry Stanley of Cincinnati, Ohio; sister Kay Holtsclaw of Belle, West Virginia; and many loving nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6:30 to 8:30pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk, VA. A Celebration of his Life will be held at 12:00pm on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at Woodlawn Funeral Home with Pastor Rick Hocker officiating. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery will occur at a later date.
