Jessie R. Woodard

Norfolk ~ Jessie Rains Woodard, 79, of Norfolk, passed away Thursday, July 17, 2008 in her home. Born April 23, 1929 in Princeton, N.C. to the late James Patterson and Fannie Yelverton Rains. She was a member of the Daughter's of the American Revolution, Larrymore Civic League, and was an avid supporter of youth sports including Azalea, Wards Corner, Little Creek, boys baseball, and Maury High School athletics. She also supported the Azalea Athletic Association youth football and cheerleaders. Jessie worked as a bookkeeper for Austin Electric, Liverman Roofing, Norfolk Planning Council and Norfolk Warehouse/Southern Salt. Jessie was predeceased by her loving husband, Lester R. Woodard. Leaving to cherish her memory are two sons, Michael K. Woodard and his wife, Marlene of Panama City, Fl. and Mark K. Woodard and his wife, Elizabeth of Norfolk; six grandchildren, Melissa Kay Woodard, Marcus Kyle Woodard, Eric Thomas Woodard, Keri Elisabeth Woodard, Keith Kapustka, and Brenda K. Johnson; great-granddaughter, Taylor Johnson; brother, Kenneth Rains and his wife, Lossie of Princeton, N.C.; and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of Jessie's life will be held 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 22, 2008 in Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6309 E. Virginia Beach Blvd. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
