Jettie Lucille Cagle Gibson passed away peacefully on November 6, 2016 at the age of 87. She was born to the late James Daniel “JD” and Zorada Lee Russel Cagle in Thomasville, North Carolina on April 5, 1929. “Teeny”, as she was known to her many friends, grew up in Thomasville, graduated from Thomasville High School and initially worked for the Thomasville Furniture company. She later moved with her husband, the late Paul L. “Pappy” Gibson, to Norfolk in the early 1950’s when he joined the Navy.
Teeny and Pappy owned a number of restaurants in Norfolk from the 1960’s through the mid-1990’s where she did everything from the cooking to the cleaning. She was an excellent chef who regularly served the Norfolk Police Department, Khedive Shrine, Magistrates and Court, and many other groups and individuals. Regarding her terrific cooking her grandson Neal once said “this may be a feast to you but we eat like this every day!”
Teeny was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose generosity knew no bounds. Her greatest treasure was her family and she was the center of our family. She always put the needs of others ahead of her own and was always more interested in helping others than talking about herself. She brightened the lives of everyone around her and will be deeply missed by all those who came to know her.
She was preceded in death by her husband Pappy and son, Gregory Paul Gibson; her parents, JD and Zorada Cagle; and brothers, David Wayne Cagle and Joe Don Cagle of Thomasville, North Carolina.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol Ann Gibson Benton, her children Katie, Nick and Neal; son Richard James “Ricky” Gibson and children Jennifer and Rick; son Joe Michael Gibson, his wife Debbie, and his children Casey, David, Alison, and Niki; and son Steven L. Gibson, his wife Lindsay and son Carter. She is also survived by her sisters, Laleh Kennedy and Sylvia Ward and brothers, Jack Cagle and wife Nancy, Robert “Bud” Cagle and wife Marie, and Russell “Rusty” Cagle and wife Melinda.
The family will receive friends beginning at 11AM, Saturday, 12 November 2016, at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk, Virginia. A memorial service will begin at noon followed by a cemetery service.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to be made to the American Cancer Society to find a cure for cancer. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.woodlawngroup.com.
