Joan L. Dodd, 80, passed away in the early morning hours of Thursday, December 2, 2021 in Courtland, VA. Joan was born in Washington, D.C. to the late Tudor and Willie Mae Fennell. Joan was also predeceased by her daughter, Pamela Dodd; brothers, Charles, William, and Joseph Fennell; and sister, Margaret Stickney.
Joan was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was pivotal for her family while husband Jim served 22 years in the US Navy, she traveled to many places and saw the world with Jim and their children. Joan was very crafty, she loved to crochet and make various decorations for her church families and for teachers. A common love of dancing, including many years in which they taught others as Double D, was a key part of Joan and Jim’s 61 years of marriage. She was of Baptist faith and was a member of Princess Anne Plaza Baptist Church in Virginia Beach.
Joan is cherished in memory by her husband, Jim Dodd; sons, Kenneth and Michael Dodd; daughters-in-law, Monique and Trina; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Patrick, Jamie, and Deven; great-granddaughters, Emersyn and Madelyn; and sisters, Bernice Judy and Betty Seegers.
A visitation will be from 5-7pm, Wednesday, December 8th, at Woodlawn Funeral Home in Norfolk. Funeral service is set for 11am, Thursday, December 9th in the funeral home chapel. After services burial will immediately follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with a reception to follow in the funeral home reception room.
