Joe B. Littles, 88, passed away on Wed., Oct 28, 2020. He was born on February 28, 1932 in Commerce, GA to Alton Little and Tottie Pittman. As a teen living in Louisville, KY he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1952. During his 22 years of proud service he fought in the Korean War and two tours in Viet Nam. He was wounded in action and was the recipient of the Purple Heart. Joe married his loving and devoted wife, Alverta on August 22, 1959. The two of them moved throughout the country while raising 3 children. Joe retired again after working 20 years in Civil Service. Never one to shy away from hard work, he continued to work part time in various other service industries. Joe was a dedicated member of Princess Anne Plaza Baptist Church for years where he served as an usher and a regular one-man welcoming committee. He made a point of speaking to everyone. He was a people person who loved talking to people about God and his family. He was a member of the American Legion Post 5 where he actively served for many years. Later in life he joined the Disabled American Veterans. Joe loved music. He would perk up at the sound of anything with a great beat, but his favorite genre was the blues. Joe loved a good western and sports. He was a true fanatic for the Raiders and Dodgers. He also enjoyed gardening and playing with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Joe is survived by his wife, Alverta Littles of Virginia Beach, VA; son Marlon Littles (Zeleta Green) of Fredericksburg, VA; daughters, Jacquelyn Balmer (Terry) of Virginia Beach, VA, and Shani Twyman of Virginia Beach, VA; his sister Sarah Caldwell of Atlanta, GA; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Alton Little and Tottie Pittman, sisters Hazel Wilburn, Lillian Alvena Parks, Jeanette, and daughter Joanne Littles.
Public viewing will be Thursday, Nov. 5, 2020 from 4-8 pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home. Graveside service will be Friday, Nov. 6, 2020 at 12:00 pm Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
