John is predeceased by his parents, John Watson Walker and Bertha Ruth Walker.
He is survived by his loving wife, Vivian Garland Walker; Sons, John Michael Walker (Vicky) and James Garland Tyler-Walker (Richard); sister, Frances Yetter (Harold); grandson, Justin Walker along with several nieces and nephews.
After graduating Princeton High School, he attended and graduated from Concord University. After college, John enlisted in the Air Force, where he served as a Weather Observer in various stations across the country. After his time in the Air Force, he went to work for C&P telephone company working as an installer and later retired as a cable splicer technician for Verizon after 40 years of service.
John was known for his love of trains, animals and watching his grandson play ball. He was an active member of Norview United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir, was a member of the Methodist Men and taught sunday school for many years.
The family would like to thank the staff of Waterbrooke Assisted Living and Gentiva Hospice Care for all of their care and support.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, September 16th from 5pm - 7pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 10am on Wednesday, September 17th at Woodlawn Funeral Home. Committal to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for donations to be made to Norview United Methodist Church or the Dementia Society of America, in John's Memory.
