Juan Mangosing

Juan Garcia Mangosing, 98, of Virginia Beach, VA, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 16th, 2026. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. Juan was born in Santa Maria Castillejos Zambales, Philippines to the late Pantaleon and Soledad Mangosing. Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years, Rosario. On May 24th, 1953, Juan married Rosario in Castillejos Zambales Philippines. She was a very dedicated Navy wife. Though our hearts are heavy, we take great comfort in knowing they are finally reunited in heaven, holding hands and dancing together once again.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his son, Jack, his wife Debbie and children Danielle and Tara; daughter, Helen, her husband Bill and children Eryn and Wil; daughter Nancy, her husband Joe, and children Courtney, Stephanie, Joey and Jimmy. He is also survived by his many great grandchildren, Isabel, Gabriela, Ricky, Juliana, Sebastian, Sophia, Emmie, Arial, Tyson, Skylar, Liam and Riley all of whom he loved dearly. He will be deeply missed by his loving family and friends.

Juan loved his family –they were always at the top of his list. He enjoyed many activities with his wife, like dancing, fishing and crabbing. Juan loved spending time in his large garden, bowling, watching western & animal series, taking weekend casino trips with his friends and romantic cruises with his wife. He was an adoring and devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.

Juan proudly served in the United States Navy for 28 years before retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. He was a culinary specialist during and after the Navy. Chief Steward Juan G. Mangosing, U.S. Navy, distinguished himself by meritorious service from June 1965 through June 1969, while serving as Chief Steward, Joint Chiefs of Staff Conference Room, and Organization of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. His consistently outstanding performance of duty and outstanding qualities of judgment, tact, responsiveness, general professional competence, and intimate knowledge of protocol have contributed directly to the greatly improved support furnished to the Joint Chiefs of Staff during their many important meetings. By his exemplary performance of duty, Chief Steward Mangosing has reflected great credit upon himself, the Organization of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the United States Navy. After his time in the Navy, he continued to serve his community at the MAC terminal. Juan also had tours abroad to Spain and Japan. He was a dedicated member of VFW Post 4809 and the Fleet Reserve Association –Branch 99. Juan was a very kind and selfless person. He had a contagious smile and a very great sense of humor. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work and kindness.

There will be a time of visitation on Monday, July 27, 2026 from 4-8 p.m. at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk. The funeral to celebrate his life will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. Following his funeral, he will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
