Julia Baker

Julia Juanita Baker, 90, went to be with the Lord on April 1, 2015 with family by her side. One of ten children, she was born November 22, 1924 to the late Lucy Carlisle and William Edward Cooper of Scotland Neck, NC. She was predeceased in 2011 by her loving and devoted husband of 62 years, George W. Baker, Jr. She was a homemaker and longtime member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church in Chesapeake. She is survived by her sister, Dorothy Cooper Harrell and her husband Freddie, with whom she lived the last few weeks of her life and her “nurse”, niece Karen Totty Dowdy and her husband Gary. Affectionately known as “Nini” or “Aunt Nita”, she will be missed by many special nieces, nephews and other extended family. The family will receive friends Friday, April 3, 2015 from 6 – 8 PM at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk, VA. Services will be held Saturday, April 4 at 11 AM at the same location by Rev. Robert Hobson and Brandon Nichols. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family would like to thank the Comfort Care Hospice nurses and staff of Chesapeake Regional Medical Center who lovingly cared for her in the last few weeks.
